The Forgotten War The Drug War
Some say the war on drugs is a war forgotten,is this true if you look at the attention given the answer is yes.The hype of years past no longer exsits being a recovering drug addict this is some what alarming. And a attempt to never return I have thrown myself into the effort of helping others.Knowing the suffering drug use causes has led me to take a more conservative approach to addiction.
On June 17,2009 the war on drugs as it has been called will turn 38 years old, during last years race too the White House neither candidate had much to say.At a time when the ex Drug Czar Gen. Barry Mccaffery, was saying the data comming out of the White House was not accurate. He says “America’s drug promblems yeild more deaths than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet these conflicts get more federal funding.
According to goverment spending records nearly one billion was spent in 2008, on all fronts, that sounds like a lot but 3/4 of that was spent on foreign soil. The remainder was spent as follows 200 million on domestic law enforcement and 164 million on treatment.
The Obama adminstration is taking a differnt approach ending federal raids on medical marijuana this was announced by Attorney General Eric Holder.Along with the new drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske saying “we need to stop looking at our Drug Policy as war.
And conclusion the drug promblem is far from solve with over a half million behind bars not to include broken homes, childern, and neighborhoods who will ask you what war on drugs.Today after being part of the promblem for a long time. And know in the trenches trying to help I see the affects. That why I have took up the task or vision as I like to call it Recovery is possible all Day Everyday, not just for the addict but for all who have been touch by what the medical profession calls and illness. There a cure we can make it happen. WE have Just begun!
